Managing Menopause: How Essential Oils Can Support Your Transition to Balance and Wellbeing
Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of the menstrual cycle and fertility. It is different for every person, but most people will notice changes from their mid-40s. Some individuals may experience menopause earlier due to medical conditions or even surgical procedures. Menopause is determined after 12 consecutive months without menstruation. The transition period is called perimenopause, and this is when most people will notice symptoms and changes.
Perimenopause, leading to menopause, occurs due to the gradual decline of the body producing oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone, resulting in many symptoms that include:
· Changes to the menstrual cycle
· Hot flushes
· Dry Skin
· Mood changes
· Increased anxiety
· Digestive changes
· Achy joints
· Brain Fog
· Poor sleep
· Reduced libido
Why is this so?
The reason is, is that we have oestrogen receptors on every cell in our bodies, hence the varied and multiple symptoms of perimenopause. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Menopause is multifaceted, some women will have a smooth passage noticing only a few changes, whilst others will have a very different journey. Lifestyle, fitness and stress will play a huge role in peoples transition and managing their symptoms. Education is also key, understanding what’s happening to your body will empower you!

NB
it’s important to remember that while aromatherapy and essential oils can provide some relief from menopause symptoms, they should not replace prescribed medications or professional medical advice. If you’re experiencing significant symptoms, it’s always best to consult with your GP to discuss the most effective treatment options for your individual needs.
