The challenges women face as their reproductive years start coming to an end, as they enter the stages of peri-menopause and then the menopausal phase of their lives are well documented and now thankfully becoming a topic that is being discussed more in mainstream media without the previous stigmas attached.
Of these challenges, self-doubt or reduced levels of self-confidence* is known to be widespread with women from all walks of life, regardless of age, location, race, or cultural background.

The significant changes women’s bodies experience have been likened to a second puberty. The unpredictable rise and fall of hormones can have a dramatic effect on the way women feel about themselves and how they see themselves in the world. **
Self-Doubt vs. Self-Assured Power Tool
Self-Doubt
A lack of faith or trust in oneself: a feeling of doubt or uncertainty about one’s abilities, actions, etc. plagued with/by self-doubt.
- Second-guessing oneself often arises when one is uncertain about a decision that has already been made, or when facing a decision that has not yet been made. It can lead to indecision, hesitation, and ultimately a lack of action, which can hinder both personal and or professional growth.
In comparison, research suggests that people who develop trust and have high levels of confidence (self-assured) are generally empowered to take action and follow up on their goals.
Self-Assured
Having confidence in your own abilities. Someone who is self-assured shows confidence in the things that they do and say because they are confident in their abilities and have trust in themselves.
- Truly confident and self-assured people are not afraid to think and act outside the box, to go beyond their current beliefs and perspectives.
My personal discovery of coaching and subsequent decision to study coaching intersects with my own journey as a woman and the challenges I have faced and continue to face when it comes to confidence both professionally and personally.
So, when it came to exploring – my power tool – my reflection, understanding of the Flip It tool, and my personal growth brought me to believe that the ‘Self-doubt vs. Self-assurance’ power tool will enable me to support women facing their own challenges of self-confidence and help them create their own fulfilling future.
In conjunction with my coaching model – Self, the impact of my clients being more self-assured will have a positive correlation with their willingness, and the depths to which their exploration and reflection will take them in their own journey.
From a neuro-psych perspective ***– feelings of safety (aka to an extent – self-assurance) are linked to innovation and self-compassion, both of which may support a reduction in peri-menopause and menopausal symptoms.
With Savvy and Brave coaching, I plan to support my clients to stand proudly, to strive forward with their own positive energy and renewed confidence.
